GET RID OF YOUR OLD SELF
Today’s devotion requires us to take an inventory of ourselves. We all have old stuff that we need to get rid of. Prayerfully, we have all grown in the Lord. If we are honest, however, old stuff will rise up in us again. Oh, I know we say we are saved and sanctified of the Holy Ghost. However, at times our flesh rises up and causes us to act ungodly. We need to get rid of the old stuff, and bury it so it will not rise up bringing shame and dishonor to God, our brothers, and our sisters. Ephesians 4:22 speaks of getting rid of our old selves.
“Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
Paul, the humble servant of the Lord, deals with the old nature. He says it is corrupt and has deceitful lusts. Paul writes that we put off this old stuff and put on your new nature that is created after the likeness of God. Be renewed! Be changed! Our inner nature is being renewed every day. Put away falsehood. Speak the truth with your neighbor. Paul wants the people he loved to live in the newness of Christ. He fully knew of his own sinful nature. Paul was grateful that God had given him a new way of living. The call today is simply this; get rid of your old self and walk in the newness of Christ. Walk with meekness, lowliness, gentleness, longsuffering, and honor God by the way you live.
