GET RID OF ALL BAD HABITS
The Word of God instructs us how to live a wholesome life. We must be willing to apply the lessons to our lives. If we are honest, all of us have bad habits. No matter how hard we try to conceal them, they come up from time to time. If we are really to follow the Lord, we need to get rid of all our bad habits. You know exactly what your bad habits are. I do not need to try to list them for they are too numerous to list. Those bad habits do not glorify God and, in many cases, are hurtful to another. We damage others as well as ourselves with our ungodly habits. Speaking foul language, gossiping, backbiting, need I say anymore. They may not be your bad habits, but trust me we all have some. The devil takes great delight in watching us use these bad habits. We cannot do it on our own, but God strengthens us to rid ourselves of bad habits. Thanks be unto God today that when we submit ourselves to Him, He will give us the strength to take them from our lives. The scripture lesson is Proverbs 19:11.
“Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.”
The writer of this wisdom literature speaks of how sensible people are able to rid themselves of bad habits. They learn respect by overlooking wrongs and not becoming angry. They live a life that pleases God. He indicates that people ruin their lives by their own foolishness and blame the Lord for their bad decisions and actions. He speaks about the habits of lazy people who sleep soundly, but idleness leaves them hungry. The writer indicates that hot-tempered people must pay the penalty. In this chapter, he gives insight into what happens when people engage in bad habits. He also says that the fear and reverence of the Lord leads to bountiful living. When you rid yourself of bad habits, you enjoy a prosperous life
