I remember in the Church Without Walls, someone sang, “Get right with God and do it now”. I thought about the need to draw nearer to God. Those who draw near to God, He will draw near to them. We are living in tumultuous days and every day we need God more than ever. Many things happen on a daily basis that tend to knock us off our feet. Nevertheless, as we draw closer, God has the power to turn things around. I pray every day that we might draw closer to God and that God will indeed bless us in those areas of our lives that need to be blessed. II Chronicles 16:9 serves as our scripture lesson for this devotion, and reads:

“The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”

In this deep and profound passage, the writer indicates that the Lord’s eyes cover the whole earth.  Those that draw close to God will find in Him the strength they need. Those who have done foolish things will experience the consequences. However, those who live blamelessly before the Lord will receive His favor.  Those who have sought closeness with God will find comfort and peace when dwelling with Him. We read in this chapter that the altar had been destroyed and there were idols without harmony with God. The prophet warns the people, while also giving encouragement. My brothers and sisters, I pray that you will not allow the events of this world to distract you away from God. Do not give way to the rulers of this world lest you find yourself distant from God. There is a price to pay for that. On the other hand, there is a priceless gift given to those who get close to God. God gives you favor. May you have the favor of God today as you draw close to Him.
