FOLLOW THE LORD

As people of God, we must always follow the Lord. I would argue strongly that far too many people get in the way and try to do things on their own. The reality is that we can do nothing unless God leads us. Look back over your life and think about the times you did things your way instead of God’s way, only to find yourself in deeper trouble. God knows the way we take — we must be willing to follow where the Lord leads.  In every decision we make, we must always put God first. In Jeremiah 10:23, we find these words:

I know, LORD, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.

Jeremiah, the prophet of the Lord, is praying to the Lord. He acknowledges his life is not his own and is aware that even though he might make plans, unless the Lord directs those plans, everything will fail. He also speaks to God on behalf of the people.  He is aware that the Lord can discipline those who refuse to acknowledge Him, but he asks for gentleness and mercy on their behalf. Also in this chapter, Jeremiah petitions the Lord to be gentle with him as He guides him, saying, “Do not correct me in anger, please Lord.  Have mercy on me.”   When you get a chance, read this entire chapter. If any among us find that the Lord is not in our every decision, we must ask Him to give us the faith and understanding needed to allow Him to guide us in every facet of our lives.
