Today’s devotion title is something we must all be willing to do. We cannot say we do not know what He has called us to do for it is clear. The problem is that we are not willing to follow His instructions by ignoring them, denying them, and being unwilling to obey them. Some of His instructions for our lives are hard and we prefer an easy lifestyle. In other words, we want to be footloose and fancyfree of any rules and regulations. Nevertheless, there are rules and standards for believers which we are called to live by. They are God’s high standards. As parents, we have standards for our children. As children of God, we have His standards to live by. Proverbs 19:20 speaks of standards.

“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.”

The writer of this wisdom literature speaks of getting all the advice and instruction we can. In this chapter, he writes of the attributes that come from following God. He warns of the consequences of disobedience. For example, he says people ruin their lives by their own foolishness and ignorance. Keep the commandments and keep your life. Discipline your children while there is still hope, otherwise you will ruin their lives. Read this entire chapter, and see the benefits of following God’s instructions and see the penalty for ignoring them. We have a choice: we can choose to follow God’s instructions or live a life of folly and fun only to see the result of a miserable life. Prayerfully, you are wise enough to follow God’s instructions.
