Fear Of The Lord

The Spirit of God led me to 1 Samuel today where we read of the fear of the Lord. In this case, fear is interpreted as the reverence, respect, and acknowledgment of God’s high and holy name. He is the great King above all kings. We live in a time when people do not fear the Lord in the manner in which we should. We cannot approach Him in ways that do not represent His Holiness. He deserves the highest respect and praise. There is no one like Him! In 1 Samuel 12:24, we find these words:

“But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve Him. Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.

Samuel reminded the people of Israel that God had been good to them and had delivered them out of the hands of their enemies. Samuel told them to fear the Lord, obey His commands and if they and their king did so, the Lord would be pleased. If not, the Lord’s hand would be against them. They then asked Samuel to pray for them. He responded, saying, “I will continue to teach you what is good and right. But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve Him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.” The people needed to learn to serve the Lord with all their heart, soul and mind and to consider His greatness. We, too, should examine our lives and think of His goodness to us. Think of how many doors He has opened. We should faithfully serve Him, and give Him praise!
