FAVOR WITH GOD

As I was preparing this devotion, I thought of the song “It’s Working.”  Some of the words in that song are, “God is leaning in my direction.” Every time I hear that song, those words resonate in my heart. God blesses His people with favor as He leans in our direction. Thank God for His unmerited and underserved favor! We could not live without it. But thanks be unto God who gives favor to us.  In Genesis 33:10, we find these words:

But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God!

Jacob and Esau were twins. As the firstborn son, Esau was entitled to a special blessing from their father Isaac. Jacob stole the blessing and Esau hated him (Genesis 27). They eventually met up on the road where they made peace and journeyed together. Jacob has a remarkable story with highs and lows in his life, yet he is filled with God’s favor and mercy. Jacob eventually builds an altar where he worships the Lord. God gives favor to people just like Jacob. Always remember it is not where you start, but where you finish that counts. Take a moment and reflect over your life and see how God has given you favor, in spite of your shortcomings. Then thank Him for His favor!
