FATHER’S DAY- SPIRITUAL MATTERS
On this Father’s Day, we pause to give honor to God for faithful fathers. There are so many children who do not have a strong spiritual father in their lives. But we cannot overlook the spiritual fathers who pray and honor God with their faithfulness to their families, spending time focused on spiritual matters. Having a spiritual father is a blessing from on high. In Joshua 4:8, we find these words:
“So the men did as Joshua had commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River, one for each tribe, just as the Lord had told Joshua. They carried them to the place where they camped for the night and constructed the memorial there.”
Joshua spoke on God’s behalf. He let the people know of God’s mighty acts so they would know that He is the living God. Joshua told them that God would give them the Promised Land, that He would bless them, and that He would intervene on their behalf. That is what a spiritual father does. He tells his children of the goodness of the Lord. He is the spiritual light in the family. Thank God today for the men of God who are not ashamed of God, and who will say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). The greatest blessing is to have a father who loves the Lord and is willing to share spiritual matters – matters that count – with their children.
