Those of you reading our daily devotions over the years know that I have been transparent about my inability to sing, but my heart sings as I think of this devotion title. I am reminded of a song “Falling in Love with Jesus is the best thing I have ever done.” That is my testimony: of all the wonderful things in my life that have been a blessing (and there have been many: my wife, my children, grandchildren, etc), the greatest blessing has been the love of God in my heart. I recognize the love of the Giver, more than the gift. Essentially, God gave me all of my family, He gave me new life, He has given me countless blessings, and it takes nothing away from the blessing to acknowledge the God who has supplied them. Take time  to think of all the things God has done for you and you will be compelled to say “Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me.”

The Scripture lesson for this devotion is John 3:17. It reads:

“God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.”

John records God’s love for us in verse 16, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” John is clear, as the Lord speaks, that he is loved, cherished, and he has been given life, eternal. We, who have received Him, have also been given life eternal. No greater love than this: that He would lay down His life for us. All we can say is: “Wow! Wonderful opportunities are waiting for those who believe in Him!” Trust God today. Thank him for allowing us the privilege and blessing of receiving Him and experiencing His abundant love!
