As believers in Christ, we ought to expect God’s goodness. It is God, who breathed life into Adam. It is God, who sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life. It is God, who gently looks beyond our faults and tends to our needs.  Because of His love, grace and mercy, we can expect only goodness from a good Father. Nevertheless, if we are honest, we will admit that we might not always behave in a way that shows that we believe this. Even when he blesses us beyond what we deserve, we often catch ourselves complaining about the blessings that have not come our way. We know that every gift is God-given, yet we sometimes see life as a half-empty glass rather than one half-filled. To be honest and transparent, I have been this way myself. Yet, encouragement comes from the scripture found in James 1:17 that I call to your attention today and ask that you underline them:

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

These are deep and profound words. God is good and perfect and all that comes from Him can only be good and perfect. The Father of Lights refers to the Creator: God who as spoken everything into existence. As He reigns and rules over the earth, He is the same God yesterday, today and tomorrow. Things may change, but not our God. Even the sun, moon and stars change, but our God never changes. Oh, my brothers and sisters, it is my fervent prayer that you expect God’s goodness and new mercies each and every day, and you will praise His Name. knowing and expecting God’s goodness is a reason to shout right now
