ENJOY THE RIDE

As you enter into my office door, a sign reads, “Enjoy the Blessed Life.” Every day, it reminds me of the blessings God has given to me. Consequently, I am able to enjoy the ride. Yes, the ride can be filled with ups and downs, trials and troubles, heartaches and grief. But the ride is so much of a blessing. Those temporary setbacks do not take away the joy of the ride with the Lord. I often refer to Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller, Sr. Pastor of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church who has said of the need to enjoy your journey. That is true whether you are pastor, preacher, or servant of the Lord. Enjoy each day that the Lord allows you to be used for His glory. Ecclesiastes 2:24 is our scriptural reference today.

“So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God.”

The writer of this deep and profound passage speaks about work and the pleasures of life. In this chapter, he talks of how God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please Him. He recognizes that whatever pleasures of life, enjoying food or drinking, are from the hand of God. In other words, all we enjoy in in our lives only comes from God. God fulfills the lives of those whom He loves with blessings from on high. That is why we should always enjoy the journey, for nothing compares to the fulfillment that comes when one seeks to please God. I know that to be true, even as I have been blessed to pastor for over 35 years, I have had my challenges and obstacles. I have been blessed far more than I can put into words. The blessings have outnumbered the trials. I will continue to enjoy the journey, this ride the Lord is leading me through. Prayerfully, you will enjoy your journey in the Lord.
