DON’T RELY ON YOUR OWN FEELINGS

Our feelings can be deceptive. They can cause us to have misgivings. I love the song lyrics, “I’ve got a feeling everything’s gonna be alright.” But the song also says, “The Holy Ghost told me.” That is entirely different from listening to your own fleshly feelings. You can never simply rely on what we you feel unless it is given to you by the power of God. Far too many things have happened in our lives that have caused us pain, and were due to our reliance on our own feelings. We said or did things because of our angry, impatient, or neglected feelings. Our feelings alone will get us into trouble. Today’s scripture reference is John 2:23.

“Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in Him.”

There were those who needed to trust Jesus because of the miracles he performed. But, the scripture says that Jesus did not trust them because He knew all about people. He knew what was in their hearts. He knew what they were feeling. Their acceptance was based upon His miraculous signs. Jesus knew they had other motives for their trust in Him. He knew their feelings would not last and that they were superficial. Even the Jewish leaders wanted Jesus to show miraculous signs to prove who He was. Jesus knew that if they destroyed the temple, in three days He would raise it. Again, their argument was that it took 46 years to build. They were operating on their feelings and did not have faith to believe that He could bring it back in 3 days, what took 46 years to build. Faith is stronger than feelings. Therefore, don’t just rely on your feelings; rely on your faith.
