DON’T LOSE YOUR TEMPER
Today’s devotion is a second in a series, Don’t Lose Your Temper. When you lose your temper, you really have not departed from evil. I have seen many people who have a temper tantrum over the smallest things. They cannot control their temper and it gets the best of them. They say and do harmful things to others and damage themselves. They dishonor God when they lose their temper while also subjecting themselves to strokes and high blood pressure. I am not a medical doctor, but I do know the risk one puts himself or herself in as it relates to their health. I am also confident that losing your temper does not please God. The scripture reference is Proverbs 14:29.
“People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.”
The writer of this wisdom literature makes it clear that people who have gained wisdom and understanding are able to control their anger. A hot temper shows great foolishness. The writer indicates that when one has a hot temper, they reveal how foolish they are. Look what the writer says in verse 30: “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body. Jealousy is like cancer in the bones.” When your heart is at peace, you live a prosperous, meaningful, and healthy life. Read this entire chapter telling you that “In all thy getting get wisdom.” Prayerfully, this chapter will cause you to gain wisdom and prevent you from losing your temper in the future.
