DON’T BE GREEDY
I have said these words so many times at a committal service: We have brought nothing into this world and certainly, we cannot carry anything with us. The Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Somehow, we fail to realize that all we have accumulated will be left behind. We understand that there is no need to be greedy or hoard things and to accumulate things that we don’t need, only for our selfishness. Greed is a sin. Unfortunately, we have a lot of greedy people in the world, who will cheat, take from others, and then remain feeling justified. There are some who resent others for having more than they do. The list of things that cause greed is enormous. Proverbs 28:25 tells us not to be greedy:
“Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity.”
This wisdom passage speaks of the evil that greed creates. The author writes in this chapter “Anyone who steals from his father and mother and says, “What’s wrong with that?” is no better than a murderer. The writer wants the readers to know that greed can be deadly. It is the work of the devil. However, he doesn’t just stop there. He writes that those who trust the Lord will live a life of life prosperity. There is no need to be greedy. God has riches. Learn to be content with whatever you have. Don’t be envious or jealous. Thank God for what He has given to you and use it wisely.
