DON’T BE BITTER
Every day I record a thought for the day on Facebook. It is another way of sharing life’s instructions with God’s people. I am led by the Holy Spirit to share words that help us to live healthy, wholesome lives. Recently, I created a thought for the day from the subject “Don’t be bitter”. I would argue strongly that too many people in the world are bitter. To make matters worse, some of them are Christians. For whatever reason, they are unable to get over their pain and disappointment and have become bitter and hard-hearted. They carry grudges and in some cases, they feel good living their lives that way. Our scriptural reference is another opportunity to view bitterness and it is found in Ephesians 4:31:
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:”
In this moving passage, Paul writes about not grieving the Holy Spirit. He realizes that bitterness needs to be cleansed from the hearts of the people. In the next verse, he writes, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” He speaks of ethical teaching, for the people need to turn to God. Be kind to one another and forgive each other as God has forgiven them. Prayerfully, there is no bitterness in your heart, and you have the heart of God.
