The title of this devotion, “Don’t Be Afraid to Follow Jesus,” gives us an assurance that He has the power to guide our lives. There is nothing to fear when we follow Him. He will lead us to green pastures. We can never go wrong when we follow the Master. When we do not know which way to go, rest assured that He knows the way and the plans that will prosper us and do good. There is no fear or want in Him. When you have tried everything else only to fail, try following Jesus. In fact, do not wait until you have tried to follow others, follow Him first! Make Him your first choice. Jesus has sufficient power to lead you in the right direction. The scripture reference is John 12:42:

“Many people did believe in Him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.”

In this moving verse, John records that many people did not believe in Jesus. The belief of the people, regardless of the miraculous signs and wonders Jesus had performed, they were still in disbelief. Isaiah said that the Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts that their eyes could not see, nor their hearts understand. The people that the Master had spoken to did not believe in Him for fear that the Pharisees would dispel them from the synagogue. They loved human praise more than they loved the Lord. I would venture to say that many people, today, fear the Lord based upon others perceptions. They are not willing to follow the Lord for fear of the consequences of being rejected by family and friends. Don’t you let fear stop you from following Jesus, for He can do for you what no one else can do. Do not let people get in the way of your commitment to Christ and walking with Him each day.
