Today’s devotion raises the question: Do you recognize the Shepherd? The Shepherd knows us. Do you know the Shepherd? Can you recognize His voice? Do you know when He is speaking? Are you aware of His presence? How does He see you? Not just on Sunday in the sanctuary, but throughout the week in your home, your job and in your neighborhood. Sometimes, He comes to visit us when we are not aware that He is coming. He might make His presence known through a stranger or a mysterious act. We must always be attentive for we don’t know when or where He will appear. This is revealed in John 10:14 where we find these words:

“I am the Good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”

In this moving passage, the Lord refers to Himself as the “Good Shepherd”. This passage reveals the Lord as the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep. He is not a hireling. When danger comes, He will not leave you. When problems mount, He will be right there with you. He has intimate knowledge of His flock. He knows His own and laid down His life for us, His sheep.  When one is lost, He will seek that lost sheep. There is one Shepherd. Again, I ask, do you know Him? There is no other shepherd like the Lord. Do not be confused or misled. You need to know Him for yourself. The more you know, the more you will love and recognize Him.
