I want to begin this devotion by posing a question: do you really believe? This is not my question, but one posed by Jesus. It is one we must all answer. It cannot be answered with ‘I think so” or “I guess so”. It is essential to our Christian faith, for our belief assures us of eternal life. It surpasses our ability to handle the trials and troubles we face in this life. Let me add, it is also important that we believe even as we experience life’s problems, that God is sufficient to bring us through. However, that belief alone does not guarantee us eternal life. Thanks be unto God, when you really believe you are assured of life with Him forever.  In John 11:26 we read:

“Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

This story centers on Martha who is weeping as a result of her brother Lazarus’ death. Lazarus died and Martha is lamenting. “If only you had been here,” she said, “My brother would not have died.” Jesus responded to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered with the knowledge of the resurrection. The Master identified Himself as the resurrection and declared whoever believes in Him shall never die. When you get a chance, read John’s recording of this miraculous story and the dialogue between Martha and Jesus. Let it resonate in your heart and make sure you are firm in your beliefs so nothing, but nothing, can separate you from the love of God.
