Do Not Defraud Your Neighbor or Rob him

As people of God, we are called to live with a higher standard of love and ethics compared to the principles the world follows.  The Word of God tells us that we must love our neighbor as ourselves. We are not to defraud or rob our neighbor.  Many of us have never considered the value of our neighbor.  Some of us may have never even spoken to our neighbors.  Growing up I was blessed to know my neighbors, but today, in many cases, although I speak to them, I don’t know their names.  However, that does not give me the right to misuse them. In Leviticus 19:13, we find these words:

“’Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.  Do not make your hired workers wait until the next day to receive their pay.’”

Read this entire chapter: it uses “thou shall not” many times as it speaks about our responsibility to be concerned about our neighbor.  It is clear that we cannot respond to our neighbor in an ungodly manner even if our neighbor has responded to us in an ungodly way.  This is a convicting chapter; one that we all should pay attention to.  There are times that I have not always followed the “thou shall not” instructions in this chapter. In spite of the fact that I have not carried out these awesome responsibilities, God has never withheld His love from me.  That is reason enough to try to live up to the mandates and responsibilities listed in His Word.
