DO NOT CONFORM TO THIS WORLD
Over the last few days, the Lord has laid on my heart to live life worthy unto Him. We cannot allow this world’s values to consume us and forget that we are called to live radical lives unto God. We must be willing to be different, which takes strength in speaking against the ungodly. I am not talking about our dress, where we eat. More importantly, I am talking about how we live. Our conversations need to honor God. Periodically, inventory your life to determine if you live up to Christ-like standards. Romans 12:2 is our reference text today.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Paul writes of the need to live holy unto the Lord. He is concerned about the welfare of his people following ungodly customs. Throughout this chapter, Paul writes from his heart about the need to remain true to God. He is not ashamed of the life he lives. Consequently, he realizes the impotence of sharing that with those he loves. He wants them to avoid being prideful and thinking more highly of themselves. One reason these devotions mean so much to me is that they speak to my heart. I need to be constantly reminded of who I am and whose I am. I am not willing to compromise my values to be accepted. It takes constant prayer because I recognize that the flesh can be weak. I praise God for the grace He gives to run this race. May we all seek to live lives that honor God.
