DEALING WITH TEMPTATION
I want to pose this question as I begin this devotion: how do you deal with temptation? If we are honest, we are all tempted at times. Temptation is a part of life. The devil has a way of tempting us. Your temptation may not be like mine, but we are all tempted at times. We cannot yield to temptation. The songwriter was correct when writing, “Yield not to temptation for each victory will give you the strength to endure.” The scripture reference is James 1:12 and reads in this manner:
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”
James writes to his fellow believers telling them that when we are tempted, it is not from God. God is never tempted to do wrong and He never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our desires that entice us. But God blesses those who patiently endure. When you yield to temptation, it gives birth to sin. That sin grows. We cannot say that God tempts us; however, we can say that if we endure temptation, God will bless us.
