COMMENDED BY GOD
What a wonderful blessing it is to be commended by God! Sometimes people commend us, only to find that they have later condemned us. People change so quickly; they can praise us one day and crucify us another. They can be our friends one day and turn against us the same day. That is why it is so important that we pursue God’s approval, because He never changes. Even if we make a mistake, God always looks at our heart and does not condemn us. In 2 Corinthians 10:18, we find these words:
“When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.”
Paul warns the people of Corinth that man’s self-commendation has no value. The only verdict that really matters is the one that the Lord gives saying, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” Paul was not one who boasted, but sought to serve the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. Paul was criticized on every hand, but he also knew that God had called him, chosen him, and saved him. His heart’s desire was to please the Lord, even as He was preparing for death. In II Timothy 4:7, Paul said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” He knew there was a final reward, not just for him, but for all who endured to the end. Prayerfully, we will all pursue God’s divine approval rather than man’s. Only what we do for Christ will last!
