Closing The Year In Praise
As we stand on the dawn of a new year, we give God thanks for the year 2023! We praise God for allowing us to see the dawning of 2024 on this New Year’s Eve. This past year was filled with many challenges, tragedies, sicknesses, floods, and fires. Yet, through it all, the Lord has sustained us. He has never left us alone. Before the clock strikes twelve, take some time to praise Him! I pray today that no matter what you plan for tonight, you take time to fall on your knees and give God thanks. Traditionally, in many of our churches, when the clock strikes twelve, worshipers will bring in the New Year on their knees. We refer to this service as “Watch Night” Service. We may not all be able to attend a service, but don’t let this day go by without giving God praise. He deserves our praise. In Philippians 4:8, we find these words:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Paul tells us to think on things that are honorable and true. Paul is aware of God’s goodness and mercy. In this same chapter he tells us to rejoice in the Lord always (verse 4) and to give God thanks (verse 6). Close out this year with praise and enter the New Year with thanks. Praise is what we do and who we are. We are the people of God. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:6 KJV).
