Thanks be unto God that in Him, we have a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. There is no one who can compare to the friend that we have in God. Please do not misunderstand; God has blessed us with earthly friends. I know that to be true, for I am blessed with countless loyal friends. However, I am aware that they all have limitations. There are things they might like to do but are unable, and can only do but so much. However, our friend in God can do all things and do all things well. Today’s scripture reference in James 2:23 speaks of the great friend we have in God, and reads in this manner.
“And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: ‘Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.’ He was even called the friend of God.”
The writer declares that Abraham had a deep and abiding faith in God. God called him righteous because of his faith. James writes that he is a friend of God. In this chapter, James states that faith without good deeds is dead. Abraham showed his faith in God and was rewarded with God calling him friend. Abraham’s faith produced good deeds and was grounded in his love for God. Prayerfully today, you are honoring the friend we have in God by walking in faith and trusting God every step of the way. The songwriter wrote the lyrics, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.” Today, we honor God and prayerfully He calls us friend.
