One of the greatest blessings God has given to us is the gift of children. As a father and grandfather, I cannot express the blessings that my sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren are to me. I have watched them grow and develop into gifted gifts of God. I spoil them because they have spoiled me. I watch the children in our church and my heart beats with joy as I see them lifting up the name of Jesus. On the other hand, my heart is heavy when I read and watch the news about our many young people violently being killed on the streets. My heart goes out to their parents. To lose a child can be one of the most devastating experiences in life. I remember singing the song “Jesus loves the little children. All the children of the world.” This is true for the Master has a heart for the children. Our scripture reference, Mark 10:14, speaks of this love.

“When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”

The text shows the Master Teacher rebuking His disciples. Despite their closeness to Him, they missed the spirit of His love for children. Jesus deeply loves children. When he saw the disciple’s actions, He was indignant and upset for their insensitivity. Read this entire story. If you are a parent or guardian, take the time today to thank God for the blessing of children.
