CELEBRATING THE RESURRECTION
We gather for worship today to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Truly this is a day of great celebration, for we serve a living, loving Lord who is in the world today. We have been blessed with the assurance that our Savior, Jesus Christ, got up from the grave with all power in His hands. As the songwriter says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.” There is no power in this world that can hold us down. He will provide us with the strength we need to do great and glorious things in His name. I am often reminded of the words of my pastor, Dr. Albert Franklin Campbell, that he has shared many years on Resurrection Sunday. He said, “He is risen, He is risen indeed! It may not be grammatically correct but it is theologically sound.” In Matthew 28:5-6, we find these words:
“Then the angel spoke to the women. ’Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ’I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as He said would happen. Come, see where His body was lying.’”
Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene went to Jesus’ tomb. They were shocked to find it empty! Their hearts were filled with joy after receiving the news from the angel that the Master was no longer in the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples this marvelous news. It is my prayer today that we will tell others that our Savior lives! Spread the good news! In spite of all of the gloom and doom in the world, we have joy in knowing that Jesus Christ got up from the grave with all power in His hands!
