As believers, we must always strive to please the Lord in every aspect of our lives. In order to do this we must be led by the Holy Spirit, for flesh will not reveal to us that which is pleasing in His sight. The Spirit gives us discernment; consequently, it allows us to determine carefully what pleases the Lord. This is crucial to our intimate relationship with Him, for we serve a holy and righteous God. It is important that the choices and decisions we make be acceptable in the Lord’s sight, for His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. There is portion of scripture in Ephesians 5:10 that speaks about the importance of offering God what is acceptable. The verse reads in this manner:

“Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.”

This deep and profound verse tests us to prove what is the will of God and what is good, acceptable, and perfect. The word acceptable is used very often throughout scripture as a sacrificial offering. It is suggested that the life of the Christian is laid upon the altar where all of our actions are to be an offering to God as an indication of our honoring Him. When you read this portion of scripture, you will also notice the preceding verses speak about darkness and light. As God’s children, we walk in the light. We cannot please God by walking in darkness, but rather the light is the path we choose. When we choose the light, we seek to find ways to please Him. Our challenge today: to live so God is pleased with our living.
