As I contemplate this devotion, I thought of the boundless, never-ending mercy that God extended to us: mercy that God grants to us each day. That is mind-boggling! Where would we be without His mercy? As you read this devotion, give God praise for the mercy He has extended to you. I am grateful for the mercies He extends to me each day for morning-by-morning new mercies we see. The truth is that He keeps blessing us with mercy, although we do not deserve it. The scripture found in I Peter 1:3 is the biblical basis for this devotion:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”

God’s abundant mercy grants a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For Peter, as for Paul, God had revealed His glory and grace supremely in Jesus Christ that we might receive His mercy. Peter makes it clear that the one thing we should be thankful for is the gift of Jesus Christ: with Jesus, there is mercy, grace, love, forgiveness and a living hope. Our hope is rooted in praise unto God. Therefore, Peter begins by blessing and praising God. He speaks of God’s redeemed children and the power of prayer, which brings about peace, hope and fulfillment. This devotion ought to cause us to shout when we think of the boundless mercy God has extended to us. All we can say is thank you. Bless that wonderful name of Jesus.
