BLESSED ASSURANCE

As I began writing this devotion, I immediately thought of a hymn we have sung in the church for many years. I must admit, even though I can’t carry a tune, there are hymns in the church that bring music to my soul. “Blessed Assurance” is one of them. Here are the words of the song, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, Oh what a foretaste of glory divine.  Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His spirit, washed in His blood.  This is my story; this is my song. Praising my Savior all the day long.  This is my story; this is my song. Praising my Savior all the day long.” This is what I do give God praise throughout each day.  We are blessed beyond measure to serve a wonderful Savior who is our all and all. Let us take a moment now to give our Savoir thanks. In John 16:33, we found these words:

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Jesus shares with His fellow believers that the time will come when they will endure trials and troubles, but they are to be encouraged because He has overcome the world. They can rest in His peace and His promise that gives them the “Blessed Assurance” they need. If there is anyone among us who does not yet know Him, or have a personal relationship with Him, just ask Him to come into your heart today. We will have trials and troubles, but thanks be to God, we have the “Blessed Assurance” that He has overcome the world, and we can rest in His peace.
