Our commitment to Bethlehem is to Love God and Serve People. That is done in a variety of ways: our children in Kenya, our interfaith homeless families that we support, our food pantry for those in need, and our Gifted to Serve ministry that provides support for those living in the streets. These are just a few ways we bless those in need. God has called us to help, to care and to share. I have said to our members that our mission is not something written on the wall, but something that we do. Thanks, be unto God that there are those here at Bethlehem doing this every day without seeking recognition. We believe this is a mandate from God, as God has blessed us we must to bless others. Psalm 41:1 is our reference today.

“Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.”

The psalmist shares the wonderful blessings that come when God’s people are kind to those in need. The Lord honors and protects them. The psalmist writes that God gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies. That is another way of saying that God blesses those who are considerate of others. What a blessing it is to give! As we give, the Lord continues to give to us. God loves a cheerful giver. It is true: you cannot beat God’s giving. He will give you more than you can ever think or imagine. Remember this; whatever we have, comes from the Lord and He expects us to share with others as He has blessed us. Today, and every day, bless those in need. Before this life is over, we may be the one in need.
