Today’s devotion has really caused me to examine myself, because I recognize that in my years of pastoring I’m sure I’ve said some things or done some things that have not always been in the will of God.  With that said, no way is this devotion intended to be self-righteous, hypocritical or judgmental.  There is a great concern regarding prosperity preaching, that marginalizes God’s Word.  Whether we are preachers or people in the pew, many areas in our lives demand examination of God’s Word to discern those who are false in their living and teaching.  In Matthew 7:15 we find these words:

“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.”

This is a very profound portion of scripture where the warning is given to beware of false prophets. It is quite clear that there are those who do not give true meaning to the Word of God.  When you read this verse, you see it also indicates these are members of the flock.  We have been given notice to be aware of them.  They come in sheep’s clothing that gives the impression they are speaking the truth.  When you get a chance read the entire chapter, for it has a lot to say not only about false prophets, but also about how we are to live our lives so we may bear good fruit. The scripture is like a two edge sword that cuts on both sides.  This scripture has cut me, and hopefully, it has cut you to the point that you study God’s Word, and you are led by the Spirit to discern what is true and what is untrue.
