BE OF GOOD CHEER
Today’s devotion calls upon the people to be of good cheer. I believe that those words need to be written deep within our hearts. Far too many people have lost the joy of life. They walk around with their heads down as if they are depleted and defeated. They need to remember that the joy of the Lord is our strength and that we can have cheer in our hearts as we deal with life’s challenges. The joy, which comes to a believer, is a joy that only the Lord can give. We can be happy and joyful even as we are going through. I have said that when you walk around with your head down and complaining, people will keep a distance from you. Others have their own burdens. However, we always need to have inward peace that reminds us that the Lord is on our side. Being of good cheer is expressed today in John 16:33.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
These words echo the words in yesterday’s devotion. John writes that there will be troubles in life that all believers will face. He wants us to be forearmed and fortified in the knowledge and faith of our assurance that the Master has overcome the world. Have peace in Christ through failure, disappointments and troubles. There is no hiding of the cost or minimizing the dangers of discipleship. The enemy will rise up, but we can still be of good cheer. Tribulation lies ahead but courage knows that He has overcome the world. We have reason to rejoice even in the midst of all we face. We are not alone. We are not victims but victorious. We can be and we must be strong in the face of adversity. Be of good cheer!
