BE LIKE A TREE PLANTED BY THE WATER
Pastor Alyn E. Waller began the year with a 31-day Journey in January. He spoke passionately about growing in our faith. Then, he asked us to evaluate our growth from January to June. Here we are on Tuesday, June 1st. It is time to take inventory of the progress we have made. Prayerfully, our faith has been rooted so deeply in the Lord that we are like a tree planted by the rivers of water. We are strong, and not moved by every wind and doctrine that blows. We are secure and planted deep and our faith fortified. We can take more than we could in January and have grown since January 1st. The scripture reference is Psalm 1:3.
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
Here, the psalmist begins this psalm speaking of the joys of those who follow the Lord. He talks of how they have learned not to follow the advice of sinful people. Rather, meditate on the Lord’s Word day and night. He compares them to trees that are planted by the riverbank whose fruit bears in season. Their leaves are not withered and they prosper in all they do. They are strong as the Lord watches over and guides them. They are no longer babes, but are mature in their faith. They are grounded in the powerful hand of the Lord. The question is, are you rooted like a tree planted by the rivers of water. Only you can answer that. And, the time will come when you will need to be rooted and planted.
