BE KIND
For the last few days, I have been speaking about why character matters, as well as why it is important to have self-control. Today’s devotion is simply “Be Kind.” I have mentioned on several occasions that these words are in my office: “Be kind. Work hard. Be humble.” To me, these words speak to character, self-control, and most certainly to being kind. I would argue strongly that Christian character will be seen in how we humble ourselves, as well as how hard we work. On the other hand, self-control speaks to kindness; it is something that requires a relationship with God. In 1 Peter 3:8, we find these words:
“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted and keep a humble attitude.”
This is what God has called us to do. Verses 10 and 11 say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” Simply stated, the Word is telling us to be kind.
