BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
This year has been a year as one never experienced before. We are blessed to worship via livestream, Facebook and YouTube. However, we have missed some aspects of fellowship of the gathering of God’s people in worship, baptism, and communion. We have not been able to do the ordinances of the church, but thanks be unto God that the Holy Spirit has baptized us. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the highest baptism you can receive for He gives us power and strength. We live under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Without God’s Spirit, there can be no worship, preaching or serving. Today’s devotion, Matthew 3:11, centers around the wonderful blessing of baptism by the Holy Spirit.
“I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be His slave and carry His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
John was aware that there were two baptisms. We baptize with water, yet John also knew that being baptized in the Holy Spirit was greater than what He could perform. He also knew he needed to be baptized by the One coming after him. John never thought of himself as the Messiah. He was not egotistical or self-centered but was clear that baptism by the Holy Spirit was deep and profound. He needed it and he knew others needed it. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit would set one on fire! It was essential for those who followed the Master to have that fire from above. Prayerfully, you have experienced two baptisms. Perhaps, as a result of your different faith or denomination, you have not experienced water baptism, but have experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
