Whether we are teaching, preaching, or doing any other ministry we should always seek God’s approval.  Consequently, we must study and prepare ourselves.  This does not mean everyone will go to seminary or some Bible college, but everyone should diligently seek to examine God’s Word so when we speak, it is from Him.  We have to search the scriptures; we must be inquisitive about what the Lord is saying through His Word.  We cannot simply rely on our own thoughts and ideas, but rather we must listen to the voice of God as He speaks through the Holy Writ.  We must be open to new interpretations about what the Word has to say.  Our hearts and minds must be open so God will speak to us, and we may share with others the ways of God.  There is a portion of scripture in II Timothy 2:15, which speaks clearly about the need to be approved by God.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Paul pleads for the sincerity that is concerned with the approval of God rather than people.  He wants the Word to have meaning; therefore, he makes a plea for study.  In other words, do your best, and give diligence to rightly handling the Word. Do not take the Word lightly. It is the Word of truth and the Word must be clear so no one will be misguided.  Don’t be ashamed of the work you do. If you do it right, there will be no shame.  These powerful words speak to all of us. In other words, whatever you do, give it your best; don’t short change God and don’t look for shortcuts.  Work hard in searching the scriptures. Handle the Word with diligence and patience so God may get the glory and the people of God may be edified.
