APPLY THE WORD TO YOUR LIFE
I am often amazed at how quickly we quote scripture and how slow we are to apply that scripture to our lives. God’s Words are action words. We are called to be more than listeners of the Word, but doers of the Word. We cannot sit under the Word and remain the same. In other words, we cannot sit under the Word and have hate in our hearts. The Word will convict us, cause us to seek forgiveness, and turn our lives around. The Word is a guide for our daily living. When we apply the Word to our lives, our lives become much better. There is no way that we can do wrong without feeling a sense of remorse. The Word will speak to our hearts and cause us to seek God’s presence. We cannot read the Word as if we are in class, studying theory. We must have practical application daily. James 1:22 is our scriptural lesson today.
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
James writes about the need to do. In this chapter, James writes to his dear brothers and sisters about the need to apply the Word to their lives. “If you listen to the Word and don’t obey it, it is like glancing at your face in the mirror. You see yourself, walk away and forget what you look like. He writes if you do what the Word says and don’t forget what you heard, God will bless you for doing it.” To much is given; much is required. The more you know God’s Word, the more you are required to do God’s Word. Apply the Word to your life for practical, daily living.
