ANY GOOD IN US IS FROM GOD
I remember the words of my pastor, Rev. Dr. Albert Franklin Campbell, Pastor Emeritus of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He often says, “All of us have a little good in us, and all of us have a little bad in us. None of us are good, however God grants us His goodness. We cannot take the credit; any good in us is a gift from God. When I would do good, evil is always present. Things I don’t want to do, I find myself doing. Sin is still in me.” He finishes by saying, “With thanksgiving to God, He can override our sins and give us kindness, grace, love, mercy, and goodness. So, we thank you God for Your goodness in us!” In Psalm 16:2, we find these words:
I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.
The psalmist acknowledges God as his Master. He begins this chapter by asking God to keep him safe. He comes to God for refuge and strength, acknowledging that all the good in him has come from God above. All the good things he seeks to do is from God. He understands that God has blessed him. Each of us are aware of God’s goodness, grace, and mercy in our lives. Take a moment to look back over your life, then thank God for His goodness to you! Give Him praise!
