Anger
The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). It cuts inside and out. We cannot sit under the Word and not be convicted by it. Many of us try to justify our anger. Anger is an emotion, but as children of God, we cannot allow anger to rest in our hearts. Anger is the work of the devil. As stated in Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (NKJV).” Our hearts and minds need to be pure and holy so that we don’t allow anger to rise up, because we are compelled to love. In Ephesians 4:26, we find these words:
“And ‘don’t sin by letting anger control you.’ Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,”
The point is that we must get rid of anger from our hearts before the day is over. Notice in verse 27, the writer says, “for anger gives a foothold to the devil…” We must not give the devil an inch, for that inch will enlarge itself to a yard. A yard will grow stronger and begin to overwhelm us. I thank God for the opportunity to dig into the Word daily as I write these devotions. I pray that I will never again go to bed angry, because this would offend God and do a disservice to others, as well as to myself. I pray that we will rid ourselves of any anger and let God have first place in our lives.
