Earlier this year, during our morning Church Without Walls hour of prayer, we spent the entire week discussing the need to pursue harmony. Each week, we select a different word as our focal point. The Lord placed that in my heart because we have so much racial division in the world today. This division has caused pain in families and torn apart friendships. God has called us to live in harmony with one another, and to love one another. This is not an option, it is a mandate. He repeatedly tells us about the need to live together as one. In Romans 14:19, we find these words:

“So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.”

The writer makes clear the need to aim for harmony. Notice the mention of the church. The writer goes on to say, “Don’t tear apart the work of God over what you eat. Remember, all foods are acceptable.” The writer is saying that if we serve God with an attitude of harmony, we will please Him. We are also held accountable to God for our actions. Therefore, we should stop condemning each other and start living in such a way that we will not cause anyone to stumble and fall.  We should honor all our brothers and sisters, remembering that we all stand before the judgment seat of God. Whatever we do, do it to the glory of God!
