ABIDE IN THE VINE

In previous devotions, I have referred to the fact that we are the branches and He is the vine. The Spirit of God continues to lead me in this direction. How tragic it is that many of us choose to live apart from the vine! We must realize that outside of God, we can do nothing. It does not matter how much education we have, unless we are abiding in the vine, we have no power. In John 15:5, we find these words:

“’Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.’”

The Master clearly reveals His true identity. The allegory of the vine and the branches is a most complete expression of the union between Christ and His people. It centers on the intimate relationship we have in our connection with Him. Christ wants us to bear fruit, but we cannot bear fruit apart from Him. Read chapter 15 when you get a chance. It clearly reveals the power of God that comes to those who abide in Him. Prayerfully, we are all striving to abide in Him.
