A New Heart
I believe that we all need to have a new heart — only God can give it. I see so many hard-hearted people, and I pray that God will soften their hearts. Every day in the media, we see someone whose cold-heart has caused pain — sometimes even death. Families are often torn apart because a family member has a cold heart. Lives are destroyed because of someone’s poisonous heart. As you read this devotion, join me in praying that God will touch the hearts of those who seem to care so little about the gift of life.
In Ezekiel 36:26, we find these words:
And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.
Ezekiel speaks to the people about their relationship with God. They have never learned to be faithful to God. Nevertheless, instead of punishment, God will forgive them and grant them a new future. He will place a new heart within them and will grant them His goodness, love and mercy. He will forgive the people for how they have turned from Him. Ezekiel writes these words, “And I will put my spirit within you… and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.” What a merciful God we serve! Thank God today that He gives us a new heart so that we can love and serve Him!
