A Living Sacrifice
We should live holy lives that are acceptable unto God. Every born-again believer is called to live a life of sacrifice — a directive to all of God’s children. When I say all, I do mean all — no one is omitted. In Romans 12:1, we find these words:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Paul calls upon God’s people to walk worthy of their calling, which is our duty and responsibility. As Paul uses the term “mercies of God,” he places emphasis upon the mercy He extends to us in all that He has done for us. Paul believes that this should be enough for us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. When he uses the word “body,” he means it as an expression from the heart. In other words, we should worship God with our entire being. Our living sacrifice includes offering God our spiritual worship, our lives, our finances, and our service as a sacrifice. We should dedicate our lives daily to bring honor and glory to God.
