I believe that every believer ought to know the danger of pride. We cannot afford to be arrogant or haughty for these characteristics will cause us to fall. However, when we replace pride with humility, God will exalt us. It is amazing how many people have self-destructed over this one word: pride. Sometimes it pays to listen to people as they talk.  If they talk too much about themselves, you can rest assured they focus little on others and God.  Our words may well lead to our demise.  In Proverbs 16:18 where we find these words about pride:

“Pride goes before destruction,  and haughtiness before a  fall.”

Pride is spoken of many times in Proverbs. It is considered a religious offence against God.  God does not dwell in the hearts of those who are arrogant, but in the hearts of those with clean hearts and a right mind.  The writer of Proverbs writes that one who is wise will spend little time boasting.  According to the writer of Proverbs, one who is wise, uses soft words.  He says words like a honeycomb are sweet to the soul.  He even indicates that it is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.  To know how to live a life that pleases God, read these words of instruction and wisdom in Proverbs and pass them on to your children and your children’s children.  Whenever they are blessed, remind them not to be boastful, but rather to be thankful.
