A GOD-FEARING WOMAN
On Sunday, we celebrated Mother’s Day. On this day set aside to honor mothers, there were many expressions of love through gifts, cards, and flowers. I believe that as important as it is to observe Mother’s Day, we should honor our mothers and women of God each and every day. We are blessed beyond measure when we have a God-fearing woman in our life — it could be a mother, grandmother, sister or a woman who has exemplified what the Bible describes as God-fearing, found in our scripture lesson today. In Proverbs 31:30 we find these words:
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”
The writer speaks about the various virtues of a godly woman throughout this chapter. In verse 20 he indicates that “she extends a helping hand to the poor” and in verse 25 he indicates that “ she is clothed with strength and dignity.” Many virtuous women have blessed my life. I think of my grandmother, my mother, my wife, my daughters and my granddaughters. Likewise, there are many God-fearing women in the church who have blessed me. I thank God for each of them. I pray, this day, that we will all take the time to thank God for God-fearing women. Our lives are so much better because of women who love the Lord.
