A Gift From God

A few years ago, we held a capital campaign in honor of our 125th anniversary of Bethlehem. We committed to go deeper in our spiritual walk, and to make a sacrificial offering to God. Throughout the campaign, people were excited to give praise reports and prayers of thanksgiving, saying that because of their faith, God had blessed them beyond measure. In Ephesians 2:8, we find these words:

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”

Paul talked about salvation, indicating there is nothing that we can do to earn it, but rather it is a gift from God. There is nothing we can do to earn the favor of God.  It can only be received through faith, which is given freely. I understand why those who made the sacrifices and the commitments were excited in their praise reports and prayers of thanksgiving. When we comprehend the magnificent grace of God, we find ourselves offering God the best we have, for we know that all that we are and all that we have comes from Him.  Thank God today for the gift of salvation. We should never take it for granted.
