A GENTLE AND QUIET SPIRIT
As believers, there should be a gentle and quiet spirit within us, causing us to love each other, care for, and be kind to each other. God has called us to walk with humility and to honor Hm. We should have the mind of Christ, being sympathetic to those who are in need. Often, many of us fail to show kindness. We get angry at the least little thing, and we say and do things that are not pleasing unto God. To make matters worse, it sometimes happens in the church! We are called to be set apart. Our light should shine so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father. In 1 Peter 3: 8, we find these words:
“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted and keep a humble attitude.”
The writer makes it clear that all Christians, “Should be of one mind; do not repay evil for evil, do not retaliate with insults, instead pay them back with blessings. That is what God has called you to do and He will grant you, His blessings.” The writer goes on to say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” In other words, we all need to strive to have a gentle and quiet spirit.
