We have been blessed by God to receive the free gift of salvation. Nothing that we have done or could ever do could earn salvation. All our good works and deeds have no bearing upon our redemption. We sometimes fail to recognize that and tend to brag about what we do. Nevertheless, let us be clear. There is nothing we can do. It is a great gift of God’s grace. Let me put a disclaimer here. That does not mean that we should not stop doing good works. We do good works out of gratitude for what He has done. Ephesians 1:7 serves as our biblical reference for today’s devotion:

“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”

God’s love for us is defined in this scripture. Because of His blood, we have received redemption and forgiveness according to the richness of His grace. Paul speaks of the grace that is involved in giving us this gift. One who receives this gift can receive it with thanksgiving. The cost of God’s forgiveness is the blood of Christ. In Him, we have redemption, because of His blood. The songwriter wrote, “What can wash away our sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus.” We thank God for the blood that works. Take the time to thank Him for His precious, precious blood. This should cause you to shout and give Him praise.
