A Double Portion
It is amazing how God blesses us. He grants us even more than our hearts desire. God is so great and generous that He gives us a double portion. He gives us more than we can even ask or imagine. In 2 Kings 2:9, we find these words:
“When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.’ And Elisha replied, ‘Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.”
Elisha asked for a double share. The meaning of this prayer is not that he should be twice as great as Elijah, but that he should be Elijah’s successor. Prayer provides us the chance to ask God to grant us opportunities to be used by Him. Prayer is our request that we might be blessed by God’s Spirit to do great things for Him. When you get a chance, read this entire story. The God we serve answers prayer. Before seeking to do anything for the Lord, pray that it is God’s will, and He will grant us the opportunity to serve. We do not have to push, or elbow our way in, we just need to go to God and ask Him, and He will grant us a double portion.
