Our heart plays a significant part of our Christian witness. A believer cannot have a hard, calloused or cold heart. It must be a heart of love. We must have a cheerful heart. Far too many of God’s people never exhibit a cheerful heart. A heart filled with gladness, a heart beating with praise and thanksgiving unto God. When you are around those with a cheerful heart, you are bound to receive a blessing. A cheerful heart exuberates with the joy of the Lord and is contagious. When they speak, you feel glad that you are in their presence. You will rejoice, laugh and experience the very presence of God. In Proverbs 17:22, we find our text today:

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”

In this book of wisdom, the writer speaks of the virtues of a cheerful heart. We see clearly the medicine that a good heart provides. It helps and has healing power and serves as strength and encouragement for those who stand in need of a blessing. In this verse, we also see the results of a broken spirit. A hardened heart dries up bones and is not helpful to others. Thank God today for those who have a cheerful heart, a heart of God. You want to be around them, and they have the good medicine we need, for life can drain and deplete us. However, to receive a word of encouragement, faith or prayer from one who has experienced God’s love and now has a heart of God is a welcome blessing. Prayerfully, today, you have a cheerful heart.
